SINCE 2010, I've been a contributor to Offshore Wind. Guess what . . . it is a special interest paper for the international offshore wind energy sector, issued by Rotterdam-based publisher Navingo. It is educational and fun to work for them
ALSO issued by Navingo is the magazine Maritime by Holland. I contribute to this magazine for the maritime industry as well.
Multi media company Navingo also issues the Maritime Offshore & Carrière Krant (MOCK for short). It's a Dutch special interest paper Janny reads and occasionally contributes to.

De Lloyd/Le Loyd is a special interest paper on transport and shipping, which can be read on-line as well. De Lloyd owner, also owner of Nieuwsblad Transport ordered the two publications to collaborate. Unfortunately, it stopped contributions from their Netherlands correspondent (me) after over 20 years of service. |

Fairplay: the international shipping weekly with Dutch features. After over 20 years of service I was forced to step down as its Netherlands correspondent early 2011. Please read as to why below.
THE DUTCH union of journalists NVJ has started the campaign Fair Share (Eerlijk Deel) in an attempt to safeguard the rights of both publisher and freelance contributor. NVJ proposes to introduce a surcharge on top of the regular rate per contribution of a freelance journalist or photographer, in an attempt to solve the problem of forced assignment of rights by contract the publisher wants freelance to sign. As it is, publishers such as National Geographic, Sanoma and IHS claim these rights for free, including the right to rewrite contributions and to sell them to other publications in-house or to third parties. Possible judicial repercussions due to misinterpretation or what not are for the freelance contributor to take. “We won’t twist your arm”, IHS says, but warns that contributors who do not sign the contract will be not commissioned.

Maritiem Nederland - a special interest monthly magazine - has appeared to be good reading stuff for the maritime sector and for national and local authorities. Managing editor Jan Spoelstra stepped into the shoes of Bart Stam. He learned from former Mayor of Rotterdam Ivo Opstelten that the magazine is valued. Click on http://www.maritiemnederland.nl to check out MN. |

All activities show that there is some truth in the Dutch saying :
"Scientists know a lot about few topics. Journalists know just a few about many topics." (including coffee, as shown in this pic with Janny in action in the right of this pic as chairwoman for the Ketelbinkie Coffeetrophy Jury)
